Riders were greeted in East Arcade Sunday morning by a heavy fog which did not fully clear out until the second lap of the race. Jay Joslyn (Skickluna) finished his dominating 2009 BBC race season by easily winning the A race, while new member Jose Felip Alvergue (Managed Care Network) took his first BBC road race win by outsprinting a group of 5 other strong riders in the B race.
Jay did not go off on one of his usual early-race flyers, but instead sat in the pack and was reportedly going to try and get a win for visiting teammate Chris Garlapow, formerly of Buffalo and now living in Colorado. The race had most of the stronger A racers staying together for virtually the entire race, with John Roden (JW Dundee's) trying to go solo a couple of times, but was pulled back each time. Whether it was Garlapow not having the legs for the uphill sprint to the finish line, or he just wanted to see his teammate take yet another BBC win, Jay cruised across the finish line ahead of a small group made up of David Van Horn (Warp 9/Bike Boy Racing)-2nd place, Tony Hoffman (EMS/Ingram Micro)-3rd place, and Garlapow (Shickluna)-4th place.
In the B race, a large group also stayed together for most of the race, only whittling down to a group of 6 towards the very end. In a close sprint to the finish line, Jose Felipe Alvergue (Managed Care Network) held of Brian Rohr (Wells Fargo Advisors)-2nd, Shawn O'Neil (Ellicottville Bike Shop)-3rd, Vince Lorenz (The Bike Shop)-4th, Lance Johnson (Wells Fargo Advisors)-5th, and Stuart Green (Tom's Pro Bike/Plan2Peak)-6th.
