Warm Temp's and and sunshine greeted the group of 40 riders at the 3rd installment of the giro series. The group was a little disorganized in the beginning but then settled in for a controlled 50 mile ride. Nerves and anxiousness was definitely a contributing factor in a large crash 5 miles into the race. no one was seriously hurt but there was a few disabled bikes, and some bumps and bruises. The race was neutralized and there was no finish....

Results from this past Sundays Giro are as follows: The fields were combined and this may be the way to do it. These are training rides with a race finish. The race was active with Jeff Yurko very aggressive in attacking and riding hard. We regrouped a couple times, but Jeff finally got back up the road and the race was on. Andy Cummings was very strong, but flated during the race. We slowed down at the crossing by RT 63 and thought he would catch, but never bridged back. Congratulations to Mike Mathis (CRCA-Empire Cycling Team) from Rochester. Mike took 2nd overall in General Classification in the 2009 Tucson Bicycle Classic Pro Race which was held March 6-8. Congratulations to Buffalo's Ryan Nye of the Preferred Care Elite Cycling Team. Ryan was out in Tucson, Arizona and raced in the 23rd Annual Tucson Bicycle Classic held March 6-8. In the Cat. 2 stage 3 circuit race, Ryan outsprinted the rest of the field to grab a big early season win. With his 7th place finish in the opening TT, 6th place in the Stage 2 Road Race, and the final stage win, Ryan secured 4th overall on General Classification for the race. Congratulations Ryan! WNY Regional Director Lou Reuter is saying that New York State has reversed its decision on funding for the Empire State Games. This is exciting news, but presents a few issues. In the past,regional trials dates have been reserved so as not to have competition from other USA Cycling permitted races. With the news of cancellation, some of these dates have been grabbed in certain regions for other USA Cycling events, including here in WNY. If you haven't noticed, our NEW website has a picture library. If you have BBC members in action, either locally or in other USA Cycling action, we want to see it. Please send in your pictures. Also, we could use a member with a little (even very little) experience in editing pictures to upload to this library. Just receive the pictures, reduce the file size to 2-3 MB and post them to the new library for the club. Anyone interested please contact Peter@Plan2Peak.com....

Well, at least the sign-up is easy. You (or your volunteer) still have to stand on the corner.You can now sign up to fulfill your marshaling duties right on the BBC website. Slots are on a first come-first serve basis, so don't wait. Another reason not to wait is the lottery. All members will be given first come-first serve options to sign up to pick the race of your choice to marshal, but on April 10th, the lottery will begin.
