In April 2009, Tim Williams received the worst telephone call of his life, informing him that his blood work was abnormal. Within hours, he was admitted to Roswell Park and diagnosed with Acute Myelogenius Leukemia (AML). As the week progressed and chemotherapy began, Tim was told not only did he have Leukemia but a rare protein that sits on the Leukemia and protects it from any form of treatment. In June 2009, Tim’s only hope was to undergo a bone marrow transplant. The search for a donor began and ended quickly when his sister Cindy was discovered to be a perfect match. The transplant took place in July 2009. For two years, Tim suffered multiple complications which required many hospitalizations. Tim was in remission and his family, Joanne and Nikki, felt they had made it over the mountain. Then, in early June 2011, Tim began having problems with his left hip. In July of 2011, he was rushed to the hospital with a collapse of the bone in his right hip. Tim was told he would need to have both hips replaced. On February 1, 2012, Tim underwent a double hip replacement and is recovering well. However, mounting medical bills and the loss of Joanne’s full time position has left the family in desperate financial need.
